Zinc Phosphide has a very low secondary exposure. If there is any Zinc Phosphide left in the gopher’s digestive system after ingestion it will metabolize in the body. The issue would be if the gopher has bait left in its fur-lined cheek pouches. Watch for signs of poisoning within 1-4 hours. Signs include loss of appetite, depressed activity, followed by vomiting, and retching. These signs progress to anxiousness, uncoordinated movements, weakness, labored breathing, thrashing, muscle tremors and convulsions.

Even though the formula for some of our Homeowner and Ag bait are the same, the difference comes down to “use sites, application methods and container size”. EPA requires that a license or permit be required to use our ag bait because the label has different use sites, application methods and comes in larger container than the homeowner bait. For example, the application method Mechanical Burrow Builder is listed on our label, it is required by EPA to be a restricted use material because of that application method. Please read each label carefully and follow directions. You can get your permit or license for our restricted use baits from your county ag department.

Yes, it is non-systemic. Meaning it will not transfer up the root system into the plant or plants.

Our Wilco Zinc Bait is an acute toxin that affects the Pocket Gopher’s internal organs systemically shutting them down . It is a single-feed solution, requiring 1 teaspoon per mound of a burrow system or 2-3 lbs/acre. Once the bait containing Zinc Phosphide enters the gastrointestinal tract it breaks down and releases Phosphine gas. Zinc Phosphide breaks down in acidic Ph conditions.

Yes by law, anytime you are using a poison bait to control rat and mouse populations, you must use a bait station.

DO NOT place water next to the Ground Squirrel Bait. In fact try and remove all water sources you can. Water works against your baiting efforts. It helps clear the poison out of their system.

To be successful, you can bait the Ground Squirrel Trap with whatever they are feeding off of in the area that you are trying to treat. Or, some of our customers have told us that “parrot mix (nuts and dry fruit),” peanut butter, or anything sweet works as well.
