Black-Tailed Prairie Dog

The Black-Tailed Prairie Dog is found on the Great Plains east of the Rocky Mountains from Saskatchewan to Sonora and Chihuahua in Mexico. Black-Tailed Prairie Dogs are actually a species of Ground Squirrel, named “dog” because of their alarm bark. The tips of their tails are sparsely covered with black hair.
